The POWER of Being Broke

I know… being broke SUCKS! It’s a real bummer knowing that you’re in a spot of having to live paycheck to paycheck and maybe even struggling to avoid living with more month left over than money. Its a pretty crappy feeling but it’s definitely not the end all be all of your finances. Being broke doesn’t have to be a lifestyle. In order to change your lifestyle you must first tackle your bad habits and limiting thought processes. Being broke is not an obstacle, rather, its an advantage.

Today I am going to write on the topic of being broke and how this state can propel you into a fruitful, financially successful position if you do the right things now.

Here’s a good analogy of mindsets being changed because of the pain of being broke. It’s the story of a couple who owned a cow and nothing else. They had this cow in their poverty so they relied heavily on its production of milk for meals, transporting goods and themselves on its back because there wasn’t money for other forms of transportation and working the small land they owned. The cow, in essence, had become almost like a god to the couple because it provided most of what they needed. A wise man was passing by with his disciple and saw the couple straining day after day with their cow, trying to survive with whatever the cow could help sustain them with. The wise man said to his disciple one evening that he should snatch the cow during the night and push it off a cliff. The disciple of course was appalled by the idea because it was a hurtful thing to do to the couple. The wise man insisted and the disciple followed through with the command. The following day as the couple was preparing to gather milk, to their horror they saw the empty shed where the cow had been placed the night before. Only the wise man and his disciple knew the reason for the cows disappearance, but they had already left for the next village by morn.

A few years later the wise man decided to travel back towards the village of the couples home. To his amazement he saw that their small little land had expanded to a size unrecognizable than before. He saw a modern touch and growth to their home. There was no sign of struggle for the couple anymore, for they now had riches and were very well off.

My question to you is this: Is your mindset or job or anything in your life serving as a safety haven for you? Could you be doing something more that requires you to be a little bit uncomfortable? Are you willing to let go of the cow in your life?

You know that old saying “necessity is the mother of invention?” When you don’t have anything, it forces you to use whatever you’ve got, leading you to use resources in new, creative ways that others may not know.

This is the message being portrayed in the story. When you lose what you have whether its a cow or a job or a spouse you have been relying on or whatever the case, it forces you to think outside the box. It may not bring riches immediately but it does help you become flexible, more knowledgeable and able to fend for yourself in harder situations. It puts you on the road of discipline and independence which, if you will, could lead you to start learning new ways of generating income. THIS is the power of being broke.

Some things to keep in mind that can deeply help you in your financial situation include…

  • Chose your friends wisely – You form habits that are similar to your friends. What they do you do too! (More written on this in previous post – Moving ahead: 3 principles to getting your life straight before you’re 30)
  • Educate yourself – I’m not saying enroll yourself in university courses, what I mean is books. Learn what other successful people, who are where you want to be, have done. All it takes is a willingness to do this. There is a library of knowledge available to you for free! Now that I think about it, you’re very blessed because of this opportunity ❤
  • Why – Why do you want to leave behind your broke lifestyle? If you dont have a why then you will lose your motivation to move forward. Get in touch with the emotions that drive your incentive for making money. Emotions cause us to take action so fire yourself up on getting rich and financially stable. Get inspired, excited, see the limitless opportunities and get yourself out from being broke.
  • Delayed gratification – This is where real discipline comes in. Delay purchasing expensive or impulsive things now that are not taking you in the direction you want to go. once in a while treats, when budgeted for, are ok but living your life and spending money now without discipline or regards to your future will lead you to financial mishaps, debt and regrets. Trust me you will not live at the quality of life you would like for your family and self so develop a plan with discipline today. Like right now if possible!

There is so much more that I would like to talk about regarding this topic but I will stop here for today. Thank you for reading this weeks blog post. Top 12 MOST ADORABLE Puppy Breeds In Existence!

Hi Friends and welcome back to my blog! Today’s topic is a little ways away from what I usually write about. I am venturing into the world of all things cute and fuzzy! What’s weird is that Im writing on this topic of cutie patooty dogs but honestly I have never owned one nor have I had a strong interest in having one until recently. My culture back home in Kenya, particularly in the village of Busia, recognize dogs as mostly used for watch keeping and herding strangers away from properties. They are known to be vicious in instinct and can easily maul any unrecognizable being who dares to cross into their space.

My more recent love for dogs has developed thanks to the culture and societal norms I’ve been exposed to here in Alberta. But I would have to give credit to my boyfriend for helping me tap into my love for puppies. He loves dogs probably more than people…and prob almost as much as he loves me. He gave me the idea to write about them for my blog post today so here it goes..

Here are the 12 MOST ADORABLE puppy breeds in life! (disclaimer – this is my opinion, all doggies are cute but these guys to me are just…)

12. St. Bernard

St. Bernards are known for their gentleness, friendliness and calm nature. They are of a larger size so they need some space to roam around and stretch. Although they are friendly, they shouldn’t be around very small children because they could unintentionally knock them over. Otherwise they are trainable with time and love their families with all their hearts. Fun fact: you may know this breed from the 1992 family comedy film named Beethoven.

11. Yorkshire Terrier (aka Yorkie)

Here’s to cuteness all around. This pupper with its gorgeous long hair ranks high as one of the cutest dogs out there! It many times can be found traveling in style thanks to its small size, examples being in purses, bags, maybe even across the chest in a fanny pack? Although they’re tiny, they generally think they own the world and pick fights with larger dogs. To avoid this make sure to get them socializing at a young age. A few discipline classes with other dogs never hurt a pup either. Overall yorkies need a lot of attention and tending to but they love their families very much.

10. French Bulldog

Just look at that face and rich color! this dog is a rare breed thus placing it a bit more on the pricey side. Nevertheless this pup has an easy going personality. They like to spend a lot of time playing and sitting on the couch relaxing. French Bulldogs are intelligent, and training them is easy as long as you make it seem like a game and keep it fun. Socializing is a must and is easy to do with this breed of dogs. They need an owner who is consistent, warm and patient. Overall frenchies make good companions and are very loving pets.

9. Chow Chow

Appearing as majestic as a lion and yet still humble and calm in nature, the chow chow obviously earns its rightful place as one of the cutest dogs around. Originating from northern China, chow’s are said to carry the appeal of a teddy-bear, the grace and independence of a cat, and the loyalty and devotion of a dog. He’s not really fond of being hugged or fussed over, but he’ll be a quiet, attentive companion to his favorite person, and his loyalty extends to other family members.

8. German Shepherd (aka Alsatian)

The German Shepherd is one of America’s most popular dog breeds— for good reason. He’s an intelligent and capable working dog. His devotion and courage are unmatched. And he’s amazingly versatile, excelling at most anything he’s trained to do including obedience competitions, search and rescue, police and military, work for the handicapped and much more! Originally bred to herd flocks all day, this is a high-energy dog who needs a lot of activity and exercise. American bred German shepherds are calmer than their European counterpart, however both hardly differ in being the faithful and loyal companion that they are.

7. Cavalier king Charles Spaniel

With its adorable fluffy long hanging ears, the cavalier is known to be a great house pet, not to mention pretty easy on the eyes. I mean who can get enough of this innocent adorable pup? Warm and lustrous, with a sweet expression, they hold the power to extract constant petting and unlimited supplies of food from people under their spell. Not surprisingly, this breed can easily become fat, which spoils its lovely lines, so be strong and offer a walk or playtime instead of the potato chips and pizza your Cavalier is angling for. of course they are loving to the family and great companions to boot.

6. Corgi

It doesn’t get much better when you have a dog with cute up facing ears and little tiny legs. Welcoming, energetic and playful in nature, Corgi’s are wonderful pets to have around. They’re Easy to train and eager to learn. Corgi’s are of 2 distinct types, one being the most commonly loved called Pembroke with its familiar gold and white features. The other being the cardigan having multiple colors and slightly larger than its counterpart. Next time you’re in front of social media take a moment just to watch Corgi’s splash into pools, I promise you wont regret it. And yes you’re welcome. Fun fact: Queen Elizabeth the 2nd received a corgi on her 18th birthday and is very fond of them to this day.

5. Bernese mountain dog (aka Berner)

One cant help but marvel at how majestic this dog looks. He has a reputation of being faithful, loyal, affectionate and very smart. He’s a large and sturdy dog breed with a friendly and calm disposition, and he’s well suited to conformation, tracking and obedience. His beautiful colors, similar to that of the cardigan corgi, make this breed quite a sight to behold, just absolutely stunning. He is in need of lots of space and shouldn’t be left alone for too long for he’s happiest when he can participate in family activities. He’s great around all ages.

4. Siberian Husky

With its thick coat and icy blue eyes (or multicolored), the Siberian husky is definitely worthy of being placed high on this list of adorable dogs. It is easy to see why many are drawn to the Siberian’s wolf-like looks, but be aware that this athletic, intelligent dog can be independent and challenging for first-time dog owners.
Moreover, they are not generally known to be aggressive and function well in multi-dog homes and homes with children too. It takes an experienced and confident dog owner who sets out rules and is consistent to own one. In the end they turn out to be wonderful family companions.

3. Pomeranian

Is there really anything wrong with this adorable creature. Pomeranian’s are of German descent and are easily recognized by their luxuriant fluffy double coat, coming in a wonderful array of colors. They are both intelligent and active dogs. Despite their size, they tend to want to pick fights with other dogs and they may think they own the world. Nevertheless, poms make excellent watch dogs with their alert attitude and tendency to bark. Of course they’re great with children and good companions all around.

2. Pug

As is the case with most short-faced dogs, his large expressive eyes, wrinkled forehead, cocked head, innocent expression, and strange sounds bring out parental feelings in many people. Adorableness overload with this one, just look at his sunglasses, what a lady killer! Small in size and he isn’t much work when it comes to exercising. He is polite to people and other pets and seldom gets into real mischief. may need a lot of time at the vet due to potential health problems but otherwise this pupper may just be the right companion for you.

1. Golden retriever

And now for my first pick. Can we just take a moment to admire this God given miracle… just…just take a minute. Just look at this baby, who can even get enough?!?! Words cant do justice towards it. This breed is known to be friendly and tolerant in nature. His intellect and natural athleticism makes him a more than capable dog. He needs tons of exercise and a purpose in the home like retrieving the news paper in the morning or waking people up. Include him in family activities because he is just that, a family dog. He’s playful and trustworthy with children and when a stranger comes around, dont bank on him barking them away, perhaps a wag of the tail and a flash of his characteristic golden smile will suffice.

Thank you for reading this weeks blog post. I hope you liked it and agree with some if not all of the selection above. If you are wondering, I found all my information from Aren’t these dogs amazing though?!?! I had fun writing about them and learning more about their features, characteristics and traits. Leave a comment below if you think I missed a pup you think should be on the list. Be sure to like and subscribe to my blog to stay updated on new posts. Remember to stay woke and of course stay blessed. Love you all and see you next time 🙂 ❤

S -E- X: Oh, So Keeping Yourself for Marriage isn’t wrong??? + 3 Ways this can be achieved

Just a disclaimer, my views on this topic will be heavily fueled by my religious affiliation to Christianity. This means that I will be referencing the bible often so if you got a problem with it, feel free to skedaddle. Also if you are one of the Kenyan papa’s, mama’s or elders who feel that this topic is ‘improper’ feel free to talk to me afterwards but leave your fimbo’s and slippers at home (its winter anyways).

The idea of sex, at least in my household, is often an unspoken, forbidden topic to address. The unfortunate thing about it is that sex, in a lustful manner, is hyper-advertised everywhere in our society. If you don’t learn about how sex is defined in the bible, then the world will gladly teach you their understanding of it. Our hyper-sexualized environment sends out a message of lust; that sex in nature is about immediate gratification with little discernment. As I mention this, you may be playing out a steamy scene from a recent movie or T.V. show you watched where a man whisked a woman away from the club, back to his apartment after their first encounter only to end up waking up tangled in bed sheets with no further objectives. These kinds of encounters are common in cinema but often leaves a void of unhappiness and unfulfillment because honestly, it’s a really shallow way of relating to others. This is not the way God designed how sex and marriage should look like.

My objective for this post is to write on why it is ok to keep yourself pure or celibate in honour of marriage and 3 ways on how this can be achieved.

Why wait or hold off from sex until marriage?

As youths and young adults we are introduced to the concept of sex early.  However, your understanding of it may not be aligned with its original intent, which is best derived from God himself because duh, he’s the all-knowing creator of it. As twisted as it has become, sex is honestly a great thing absent of sin when done right. Hold onto your seats I’m about to preach! The bible defines sex or the idea of sex as a man leaving his parents and uniting himself to his WIFE (note it doesn’t say girlfriend or side chick, it says wife; get her a ring and issa wife). The world of course portrays sex as a regular activity which everyone participates in with no harm to it. The truth is there may not be any immediate consequences (if you’re lucky) but there may be emotional and psychological damage during the process.

You will end up giving a piece of yourself to the individual you are being intimate with whether you know It or not. You are at your most vulnerable during sex because it is an act of trust with some level of expectations or feelings of entitlement afterwards. For example, you could feel entitled to loyalty from the person you sleep with but that person won’t act loyal since they don’t have a reason for it. Marriage binds 2 people together with a promise. God intended thorough commitment and respect to underlie the purpose of marriage, this way your emotions, psychological, and physical health stay intact and protected.

1 Thessalonians 4:3-5 states that it is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the pagans, who do not know God. Since you are the child of the most-high God, made in his own image and crafted in his likeness, you are also expected to know him through having a relationship with him. You no longer belong to yourself, you are bought with the precious blood of Christ so you are encouraged to abide in his will which is set out only to benefit you. Imagine, your faithful God wouldn’t just stop at sacrificing his beloved son to help you enter heaven but also to give you the option to follow him, choose life, protect yourself and achieve success as you power through life. It is truly a selfless amazing act isn’t it?

Even if you are not a Christian, the principle of abstaining from sex until marriage has more benefits than not. The reasons outlined above still apply to you if you want to protect yourself from the consequences that arise from sex before marriage. In addition, abstinence helps lower the risks of contracting an STI and helps you focus more on the person’s qualities and things like whether or not they’re actually a good fit for you.

Lastly, please do not beat yourself up if you are no longer pure. This is not a post on condemnation. The bible says in 1 John 1:9 if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. We are not our mistakes or even our past choices, if you know better you do better. God actually considers you ‘pure’ through the light of Jesus Christ so you dont have to carry that burden any further from here on out. In fact, your sins were forgiven before you were even born! Live life now like you are living for Christ, its the only way you can walk guilt free and still enjoy the pleasures of life within the structure God designed for it! ❤

If you are young and interested in dating but want to save yourself for marriage, here are 3 ways to prevent falling into the temptation of sex before saying “I do.”

  1. Know the difference between someone who respects your decision and someone who doesn’t

I think the best way to say this is to just be equally yoked in a relationship, this way you already have similar foundations and values and can understand each others requirements better. Your partner should be able to respect you and vice versa for wanting to save yourself for marriage. Ladies, a guy who respects your decision shows it by asking how he can be the most helpful in this regard, and encourage you to let him know if he is crossing any lines or making things difficult for you. He will also accept your explanation without further questioning or making you feel guilty/pressured about it. Be with someone who encourages you to be who you are, stand by what you believe in and optimally loves God as much if not more than you do! (Kudos to those of you who are with a partner like this already, may God direct and bless your paths). If that person does not respect or encourage your decision, it is better for them to be alone 🙂

  1. Have confidence in stating your boundaries

Don’t wait until you are in a horizontal position to inform your partner about your boundaries and expectations. Instead, if you are serious about entering into a relationship with someone, you need to express your beliefs on sex, intimacy and marriage as soon as possible (first 3 dates if possible). Remember that you are dating with intention, not just for fun and short lived pleasure. Do not be ashamed to talk about your faith either, some people are Christians but are ashamed of losing their partner because of their belief in Christ. Matthew 10:32-33 states ‘So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven, but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.’ I dont know about you but I would much rather be acknowledged by Jesus than a person. Now whether you are a man or woman, part of defining the relationship is being clear about your expectations, that way you give them the freedom to walk away and not feel like their time was wasted. Having someone who waits till it is too late or changes their minds about a relationship later is really frustrating. It’s better to get a clear understanding from the beginning so you dont feel played, used, or that your time was wasted! trust me I’ve been in a situation like this in a platonic relationship and its the last time I will let someone take advantage of my precious time.

  1. Find appropriate ways to show your partner that you love them

Love isn’t just summed up in sex, there are so many other ways to show your love to your partner. For example, you could cancel something in your schedule that you value to make room to see them, this can make your partner feel  important in your life. You could also give them words of affirmation and show real support for them in their choices. You could lend a hand and offer your time or understanding of something to benefit them so they feel appreciated. There are different love languages that people respond to. Figuring out what love language your partner speaks helps veer the relationship away from sex and more towards investing and growing each other. This goes both ways, it’s a mutual relationship so both parties should feel appreciated otherwise there would need to be some changes made in order to enhance the health of the relationship. So be creative and find ways to please your partner making them feel lucky to have you.

3 Ways To Increase Your Financial Success

If you were present at my last week’s blog, then you already know that this week we will be covering part 2 of our topic on financial education. Part 2 for this week will be about increasing your financial success, the how to in achieving financial stability and prosperity. Today, with the help of my special guest, we desire to educate and encourage you to add and/or change certain habits in how you regularly handle your money expenditures. I’ll be honest with you, I am no guru on finances, I don’t know all the answers but I happen to have a well-educated and experienced “rich mom” who has taught me a lot about utilizing money so I thought I would ricochet my understanding and her knowledge your way. (I cant be the only one to have access to this goldmine of information). Again just to remind you, the theme for my blogging page is to learn, grow and prosper. Let me know what you learned or already knew but want to apply now in your life in the comments section down below.

~Brief summary of topic~

1. The dreaded B word…B*dget:

10%, 10%, 10% and 70% rule by my mom Janepher  – 10 for self which can be saved for retirement and compounded as time goes if you start young, 10 for tithe (paying your most important success partner), and 10 for personal investments. The remaining 70% can be budgeted for your daily needs including saving for a 6 month emergency fund.

*An emergency fund is an amount you save per month that can enable you to live comfortably if an emergency occurred. (lets say you can live comfortably with $2,000 a month, that means you need $12,000 saved aside in your emergency fund if something were to happen to you).

2.  Make assets your friend and liabilities your enemy:

Know the difference between an asset, which place money into your pocket vs liabilities, which takes away money from your pocket. The goal is to acquire more assets while decreasing your liabilities. That simply means focusing on paying off your debt and increasing your cash flowing assets.

*If it’s difficult for 70% to cover your needs, then that means you gotta get up and start thinking about ways you can expand your means. For example a small business on the side that serves as an asset can increase the amount in your 70% and enable you to live comfortably in that bracket.

3. Take care of your health:

your health is not only physical but it also includes financial health as well as spiritual, mental, emotional, and social. According to my mentor (mom) I have learned that all of these work together and affect how you acquire and manage your wealth. Do not ignore these pillars of health and your financial success will become both stable and enjoyable.

Additional to this podcast, please also remember to keep track of what you spend. To start you may write down a record of your expenditures, this way you can accurately determine where your money is going and encourage you to stay in control of your expenses. Writing things down has been proven to help enforce change and aid as a reminder to get things done. So keep writing!

Now, let’s not waste any time so lets get listening! Here, in an audio-interview format, are 3 vital ways to increase your financial success!
